How this investigation was carried out
The broad aim of the investigation is to determine the attitudes and awareness of the UCT community towards energy saving. A survey was compiled based on the following objectives:

how aware of the country’s energy crisis the UCT populace is

how interested the UCT community is in saving electricity
-
current levels of participation in energy saving measures
-
what the prevailing perceptions of UCT’s electricity use are
-
what suggestions the people at UCT have for the institution to save power
People who fell into the following 5 categories were interviewed:
-
Day students - students who are enrolled at UCT on a full-time basis and who are not residing in a UCT residence.

Residence students - full-time students who are currently living in self-catering UCT housing.

Academic staff - includes all lectures, teaching assistants, heads of department and associate professors and research fellows.

Professional, administrative and support staff (PASS) members - consists broadly of administrative assistants, receptionists, clerks, etc.

Staff employed by outsourced contractors - for the investigation consisted of individuals employed by Supercare Services Group
